Cantonese people in Guangzhou (used to called Canton, where People speak Cantonese) felt very depressed recently because the government suggested that they need to use Mandarin for news on their major TV channels. Many of them took to to street to protest.
We Cantonese love our own language while we are glad to learn Mandarin, or Putonhua 普通話, the official Chinese language. However, Cantonese, the most influential Chinese dialect in China and around the world, need to keep alive for its important value. This beautiful language has the longer history than Mandarin and most of us found it more colorful, rich in its cultural background and root.
