Chinese Words or Chinese Characters

When we say Chinese words, we mean the basic unit in Chinese sentences.  Chinese words are consist of Chinese characters, each of which may have its own meaning but the meaning the Chinese words can be different from those characters individually.

Most of the Chinese words are consist of two characters and most of the Chinese idioms are consist of four characters.

e.g.  工作  = work or job  , but  工 gong1 = work  作 = make
